The modern 1080 version 10, gives you combination of plushness and responsiveness without crossing over the 300g barrier. It's a premium performance shoe within New Balance's range which receives plenty of tech and research attention during its design. V10 VS. V9
V10 uses a modified Fresh Foam midsole known as Fresh Foam X, which is essentially a 'smarter' version traditional Fresh Foam cushioning. Within 1 continuous midsole, New Balance have been able to give Fresh Foam X zonal properties by adjusting the compounds density and make-up. Certain zones of the midsole will be more responsive, some will be softer and others will be more supportive. All together this results in a lighter, softer (as a whole) and more advanced midsole.
V10 also undergoes changes in fit. The upper is now comprised of a hypoknit upper, allowing strategic areas of stretch and support and a more adaptive fit. The knitted zones don't feel loose, which can sometimes be a concern with knitted uppers. The upper is very strong and versatile!
The bootie-like fit incorporates an improved the heel lock-down by shortening the collar of the shoe (space between the heel counter and tongue) and makes use of an ultra heel design which hugs the foot for a snug, supportive fit. The ultra heel is non-intrusive, seamless and deeper than the v9's heel counter,
There's still an ortholite cushion insert designed for unmatched comfort and significant moisture control to combat sweat.
The 1080 also has a mild 'rocker' feel (slight rounded shape of the shoe), which gives you a forward propelling feel which many runners will appreciate!
A data-driven Fresh Foam X midsole provides premium comfort and better energy return than its predecessor.
Laser engraving on the midsole removes added weight and provides enhanced flexibility.
